History:
Founded in 2016, Kast quickly grew to be the 9th largest podcast network in the world. We launched the podcast careers of many of today's top 100 podcasts, who have gone on to sign deals worth hundreds of millions. We built a powerful catalog of intellectual property, empowered and amplified meaningful and impactful conversations, and from 2019 - 2022, we paid out independent creators more than $30M in advertising revenue.
However, in 2023, a downturn in the podcast advertising market led to one of the most dramatic business failures in the creator industry. The story of how this played out, in our founder Colin's words, can be found here.
But today is not about the past. Detailed in Colin's Open Letter to the Creator Economy, systemic operational practices have caused and will continue to cause similar problems for creators in the future, unless standard operational changes are enacted.
